K-12 (primary and secondary) schooling is very competitive. Especially in Asia, parents are constantly expecting their kids to do more academically. These parents are pushing their schools for more homework and to move faster. They are also sending their children to do a lot of after-school lessons that they feel are important like Math, English or learning to play musical instruments.
However, the variety of these after school lessons are quite limited. One of the main reasons why is credibility. Parents only want to have their kids spend time on activities that will be seen by others as something that adds value. Large training institutions have brand recognition and general subjects like Math and English have always been very important.
As you can see from the Gartner report, the Education industry has been a laggard in adopting blockchain technology. However, in 2020 the “Live in Production” percentage has some traction. While this percentage is still low compared to other industries, it does indicate that with some leading organizations, they do see the need to adopt cutting edge tech in order to maintain its leadership position.
Blockchain allows students to have a larger variety of learning experiences that will be approved by their parents. The core value proposition of blockchain is trust. All training centers that use blockchain to certify that students have taken and completed their training will be recognized by all interested parties as being legitimated. Currently, people need to go by “blind trust” when students submit their “CV” with mentioning of these types of training.
Blockchain can help building out a “Student Passport” which can be a running dashboard built using real-time data of any activities that the student or parent believe is import to showcase. The passport can be use like how a LinkedIn profile is use today by professional workers. However, the passport will be more legitimate because of the trust factor embedded in the technology.
Blockchain will allow kids to be kids again. They can go to football camp, go on nature hikes or enter a local chess competition and have each of these activities be a way to build a unique student profile that will be their passport to the world!
